Ἀντιπατριδος, ἡ, Antipatris, a city situated between Joppa and Caesarea, in a very fertile region, not far from the coast; formerly called Χαβαρζαβα (others, Καφαρσαβα (or Καφαρσαβα)) (Josephus, Antiquities 13,15, 1), and afterward rebuilt by Herod the Great and named Antipatris in honor of his father Antipater (Josephus, b. j. 1,21, 9): Acts 23:31. Cf. Robinson, Researches etc. 3:45f; Later Researches, iii. 138f (also Bib. Sacr. for 1843, pp. 478-498; and for 1853, p. 528f).
