ὕσσακος: ἢ ὕσσαξ, ὁ, ἑρμηνεύεται παρὰ τῷ Μεγ. Ἐτυμολόγ. 785, 8, καὶ τῷ Φωτ. διὰ τοῦ πάσσαλος, ἀλλ’ ἐν χρήσει εὕρηται ἐπὶ τοῦ γυναικείου αἰδοίου, εἶμ’ ὥστ’ ἀπ’ ὑσσάκω λυθεῖσα Ποιητ. Δωρ. παρ’ Ἡφαιστ. 28· ἀπήλαον τὼς ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν ὑσσάκων Ἀριστοφ. Λυσ. 1001· ὡς φαίνεται ἡ λέξις εἶναι Δωρικ.

Meaning: nur ὑσσάκους· πασσάλους EM 785, 7, Phot.; Gen. pl. -άκων cunnus (Ar. Lys. 1001); auch ὕσσακος· ὑστακός H. (= πάσσαλος Theognost. Kan. 24), ὕσταξ· πάσσαλος κεράτινος H.
Etymology : Bildung wie τριβακός, λιθακός, θύλακος bzw. στύραξ, κάμαξ, λίθαξ u.a. Im Sinn von πάσσαλος schwerlich von ὑσσός zu trennen; als vulgärer Ausdruck bei Ar. steht das Wort wahrscheinlich mit Anspielung auf ὗς als Ersatzwort für χοῖρος, in der Kom. oft im Sinne von cunnus gebraucht (vgl. Ernout BSL 41, 121 A. 1). — Zu ὕσταξ vgl. die Lit. zu ἕστωρ.
