English (LSJ)
φασκίδες, ἀγκάλαι, Id.:—also βάσκιοι· δεσμαὶ φρύγανων, Id. βάσκιλλος· κίσσα, Id. βάσκον· χῶρον, Id.
Spanish (DGE)
φασκίδες. ἀγκάλαι Hsch.
• Etimología: Se ha postulado un origen ilir. y rel. lat. fascis a partir de una r. *bhn̥dh-sk-, lo mismo que βάσκιοι aunque no hay confirmación.
Frisk Etymological English
Grammatical information: m./f?
Meaning: φασκίδες, ἀγκάλαι.
Other forms: Cf. βάσκιοι δεσμαὶ φρυγάνων H.
Origin: LW [a loanword which is (probably) not of Pre-Greek origin] Eur.
Etymology: The word has been considered Macedonian and cognate with Lat. fascia binding, Germ. Band. Szemerényi, KZ 71 (1954) 212f, thought it was Illyrian. φασκίδες would then be the real Greek development. The word seems rather a European substratum word, s. Beekes, 125 Jahre Idg. (2000) 21-31. Not to φάσκωλος.
Frisk Etymology German
βασκευταί: {baskeutaí}
Meaning: φασκίδες, ἀγκάλαι. βάσκιοι· δεσμαὶ φρυγάνων H.
Etymology: Nach Fick BB 29, 199 (vgl. auch Hoffmann Makedonen 61) makedonisch und mit lat. fascia Binde, Band, fascis Bund, Bündel urverwandt. Demgegenüber muß φασκίδες die griechische Lautform repräsentieren. Unsicher ist, ob φάσκωλος Mantelsack, Ranzen hierhergehört, s. d. — Näheres bei WP. 2, 135f., Pok. 111 m. Lit.
