[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Η αρχαία μορφή του τ. ήταν λῆστις (βλ. λῆστις). Στα σύνθ. ο αρχαίος τ. συμμορφώθηκε προς τα πολλά θηλ. σε -σις (πρβλ. ἔκλησις, ἐπίλησις), από όπου και το απλό λῆσις.
