Etymology: The long α in Ionic-Attic points to recent origin. Compared with ἀβαρύ ὀρίγανον <τὸ ἐν> Μακεδονίᾳ H. If this is accepted, the variation β\/μ points to a Greek substr. word, which is anyhow probable. Connection with Skt. maruva(ka)- id. is then wrong.
