A speak among persons, whether in addressing one or more of them, or as their spokesman, Hom. (only 3sg. impf. μετέφη), c. dat. pl., τῇσιν (sc. δμῳαῖς) μ. Od.18.312; πάντεσσι θεοῖσι Il.19.100: elsewh. Hom. always joins it with τοῖς or τοῖσι, whether a single person is addressed, as in Il.2.411, 4.153, 19.55, or more than one, as in Od.8.132:—μετέφη c. acc. pers. is f. l. in Il.2.795.
