ἀσπιδόεσσα, ἀσπιδόεν, = ἀσπιδοειδής (shaped like a shield, adorned with serpents), Poet. ap. S.E. M. 1.316, cf. Oppian. H. 1.397 ; but perhaps shield-covered, and so of the testudo, formed by shields, Id. C. 1.214.
