I Lit., a grammatical fault in the construction of a sentence, a solecism (cf. stribligo): vitia in sermone, quo minus is Latinus sit, duo possunt esse: soloecismus et barbarismus. Soloecismus est, cum in verbis pluribus consequens verbum superiori non accommodatur. Barbarismus est, cum verbum aliquod vitiose effertur, Auct. Her. 4, 12, 17; cf. Sinn. Capito ap.
