A rise of the sea, as at flood-tide, πλημῠρὶς ἐκ πόντοιο of the wave caused by the rock thrown by the Cyclops, Od.9.486; flood-tide, opp. ἄμπωτις (ebb), π. τῆς θαλάσσης μεγάλη Hdt.8.129; π. πόντου B.Fr.30; ἡ ἔξω π. Arist.Mete.366a20, cf. Str.3.3.7 (pl.), S.E.M.9.79 (pl.). 2 generally, flood, deluge, Arist.Mu.397a28 (pl.); of tears, σταγόνες . . δυσχίμου πλημῡρίδος A.
