Etymology : Fremdwort, nach Iuba bei Plin. HN 37, 108 aus der Sprache der Trogodyten, zunächst nach einer gleichnamigen Insel im Roten Meere (ebenso HN 6, 169 u.a.). Eine andere (vulgäre) Schreibung scheint in ταβάσιος, -ις (PHolm.) vorzuliegen; vgl. Lagercrantz zu PHolm. 4, 12.
