Etymology: No etym. Supposed to be identical with βρόμος noise, Kretschmer Glotta 9, 222f., 11, 98, Hatzidakis, Glotta 22 (1934) 130-3. Diff. Kalitsunakis, Glotta 12,198. - Lat. brōmus, brōmōsus, exbrōmō is a loan. The word lives on in the element, Fr. brome etc.
