Greek (Liddell-Scott)
λογάδες: -αἱ, τὰ λευκὰ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν, Νικ. Θ. 292, ἔνθα ἴδε τὸν Σχολ., πρβλ. Σώφρονα καὶ Καλλ. παρὰ τῷ Μεγάλ. Ἐτυμολόγῳ 572. 36· - καθόλου, οἱ ὀφθαλμοί, Ἀνθ. Π. 5. 270.
Russian (Dvoretsky)
λογάδες: άδων αἱ досл. глазные белки, перен. глаза Anth.
άδων οἱ λογάς (sc. ἄνδρες или στρατιῶται) логады, отборные воины Her., Thuc.
Frisk Etymological English
Grammatical information: pl. f. (sg. Poll. 2, 70)
Meaning: whites of the eye, τὰ λευκὰ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν (Sophr. 49, Call. Fr. 132, Nic. Th. 292), also = eyes (AP 5, 269).
Origin: GR [a formation built with Greek elements]X [probably]
Etymology: Metaphorical use of λογάδες (λίθοι) picked, chosen, i.e. unworked stones, rolling(?) stones as opposed to cut stones (Paus. 7, 22, 5); cf. also λογάδην through accidental selection, of stones (Th.), λιθο-λόγος (-έω, -ία) who works with uncut rolling(?) stones (opposite λιθο-τόμος, -ουργός); note however the alternative explanation of λογάδας as ψήφους λευκάς' in H. Thus(?) Swed. ögon-sten eye-ball, prop. "eyestone". - Wrong EM 572, 42 (to λοξόομαι, λοξός), Zupitza German. Gutt. 215 (to OE lōcian look etc.; WP. 2, 381), Bechtel Dial. 2, 284 (to λέγνον border; s. v.). Further s. λέγω; cf. also on λωγάλιοι. - Fur. 363 etc. connects λύγδος white marble: needs further adstruction.

Grammar: pl. f. (sg. Poll. 2, 70)
Meaning: Augäpfel, [[τὰ λευκὰ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν]] (Sophr. 49, Kall. Fr. 132, Nik. Th. 292), auch = Augen (AP 5, 269).
Etymology : Metaphorische Verwendung von λογάδες (λίθοι) aufgelesene, d.h. unbehauene Steine, Rollsteine im Gegensatz zu Quadersteine (Paus. 7, 22, 5); vgl. noch λογάδην durch zufällige Auslese, von Steinen (Th. u. a.), λιθολόγος (-έω, -ία) der mit unbehauenen Rollsteinen arbeitet (Gegensatz λιθοτόμος, -ουργός); zu bemerken auch die alternative Erklärung von λογάδας als [[ψήφους λευκάς bei H. Ebenso schwed. ögon-sten Augapfel, eig. "Augenstein". — Abzulehnen EM572, 42 (zu λοξόομαι, λοξός), Zupitza German. Gutt. 215 (zu ags. lōcian look usw.; WP. 2, 381), Bechtel Dial. 2, 284 (zu λέγνον Saum; s. d.). Weiteres s. λέγω; vgl. auch zu λωγάλιοι.
