Hermanns Staatsalterth. §. 127. – b) ἐπιστάται τῶν δημοσίων ἔργων, Aufseher über die Staatsbauten, zu denen die τειχοποιοί, ὁδοποιοί u. ä., auch ἐπιστάται τῶν ὑδάτων, Wasserbauinspectoren gehören, Herm. a. a. O. §. 149, 7 u. Böckh Staatshh. I p. 218. – c) Vorsteher der Tempel, Inscr., vgl. Böckh a. a. O. p. 173. – Bei Plat. Prot. 312 d, ἐπιστ. τοῦ ποιῆσαι δεινὸν λέγειν, liegt darin auch der Begriff des Kundigen. – Ar. Av. 436, κρεμάσατον τύχῃ 'γαθῇ εἰς τὸν ἰπνὸν εἴσω πλησίον τοῦ 'πιστάτου, wird verschieden erkl., entweder als ἰπνολέβης, od. als ein Thonbild des Hephästus, das auf dem Feuerheerde stand, od. ein Gestell, um Küchengeräthschaften aufzuhängen, od. der Dreifuß unter dem Mischgefäß, s. Schol. u. Böckh Inscr. I p. 20.
