   A small fry of various fishes (cf. ἀφρός III), Epich.60,89,124, Ar.Ach.640, Hices. ap. Ath.7.285b; = μεμβράς, Hsch.; nickname of ἑταίρα, Ath. 13.586b: prov., ἀφύα πῦρ or εἶδε πῦρ ἀ. 'no sooner said than done', Zen.2.32, Eust.1150.40.—Not used in sg. by Att., acc. to Hsch. s.v. ἀφύων τιμή.
