[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Θεωνύμιο του προελληνικού γλωσσικού υποστρώματος ή δάνειο από την περιοχή της Μικράς Ασίας. Ο τ. Τυφω-εύς αποτελεί παρεκτεταμένη μορφή με επίθημα -εύς του τ. Τυφώς. Η σύνδεση τών τ. με την οικογένεια του ρ. τύφω, -ομαι «περιβάλλω με καπνό» οφείλεται σε παρετυμολογία. Με το θεωνύμιο Τυφωεύς συνδέεται το θεωνύμιο Τυφῶν, -ῶνος «πατέρας τών ανέμων», από όπου το νεοελλ. τυφώνας].
