appease: P. and V. πραΰνειν, Ar. and P. παραμυθεῖσθαι, V. θέλγειν (also Plato but rare P.), παρηγορεῖν, μαλθάσσειν, Ar. and V. μαλάσσειν; see soothe.
be softened: use also P. and V. τέγγεσθαι (Plato but rare P.), V. μαλθακίζεσθαι, πεπανθῆναι (1st aor. pass. of πεπαίνειν).
