Thuc. 4, 72. – Bloß episch ist der nom. u. acc. plur. πλέες, πλέας (s. oben); ion. u. dor. ist die Zusammenziehung πλεῦν für πλέον, πλεῦνος, πλεῦνες u. ä. für πλέονος, πλέονες u. s. w. – Ein besonderer Atticismus ist πλεῖν, nom. u. acc. sing. für πλέον, der nur in Zahlverbindungen, wie πλεῖν ἢ μύριοι, Ar. Av. 6 Nubb. 1041 u. öfter gebraucht ist. – Ion. dat. plur. πλεόνεσι, Her. 7, 224. – Bei Hom. u. Hes. wechseln übrigens die Formen πλείων u. πλέων nach Versbedarf, doch ist letztere, bes. im plur., häufiger;, dat. πλείοσι u. πλεόνεσσι; in att. Prosa ist πλείων, πλέον die gebräuchlichste Form, letzteres besonders in adverbialen Beziehungen, dagegen in der zusammengezogenen Form πλείους, πλείω vorherrschend; aber im nom. plur. bleibt πλέω das Herrschende, vgl. Reisig conj. Arist. p. 43 u. Buttm. Gramm. – Spätere verbinden sogar diese Form πλέω mit einem subst. sing. num., vgl. Wess. D. Sic. 1, 63 u. Schäf. D. L. p. 229.
