→ Long, unmeasurable Time brings to light everything unseen and hides what has been apparent. Nothing is beyond hope; even the fearsome oath and the most stubborn will is overcome. | All things long and countless time brings to birth in darkness and covers after they have been revealed! Nothing is beyond expectation; the dread oath and the unflinching purpose can be overcome.

English (LSJ)

ον, (ψυχή)

A in full life, π. ἀνάσσει, of Amphiaraus, S.El.841 (lyr., also expld. by Sch. as 'ruling over all the shades' or 'immortal', = πασῶν ψυχῶν ἀνάσσει, cf. Od.11.483sq., A. Ch.355).

German (Pape)

[Seite 455] ganz beseelt, durchaus lebend; Soph. El. 831 heißt es vom Amphiaraos ὑπὸ γαίας πάμψυχος ἀνάσσει, was einige alte Erkl. durch ἀθάνατος erkl., Andere πασῶν ψυχῶν ἀνάσσει, αἳ δὴ ἐν χρείᾳ καθεστᾶσι τῆς ἐκείνου μαντικῆς, was Hermann billigt; nicht so einfach ist »er herrscht in voller Lebenskraft«, Gegensatz zum Halbleben der andern Schatten in der Unterwelt, Passow.

Greek (Liddell-Scott)

πάμψῡχος: -ον, (ψυχὴ) ἐν Σοφ. Ἠλ. 841, π. ἀνάσσει κατὰ τὸν Σχολ., = πασῶν ψυχῶν ἀνάσσει, πρβλ. Ὀδ. Λ. 483 κἑξ., Αἰσχύλ. Χο. 355.

French (Bailly abrégé)

tout vivant.
Étymologie: πᾶν, ψυχή.
