Meaning: βύριον οἴκημα; βυριόθεν οἴκοθεν H. Cf. εὐβύριον τὸ εὔοικον εἴρηται, ὅτι κατὰ την βαυρίαν η κατὰ Μεσσαπίους σημαίνει οἰκίαν (EM 389,25); and βαυριόθεν = οἴκοθεν (Cleon Sic. 2).

Etymology: Messapian word, seen in Germanic: OIc. būr n., OHG, OE būr m. cottage, room (PGm. *būra-); Pok. 149. With other ablaut βαυρία, βᾶρις (s. vv.). S.Krahe IF 57, 116. Supposed to be r-derivatives of a word for live, dwell, s. φύω.
