[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Αβέβαιης ετυμολ. Είναι πιθ. λ. ινδικής προελεύσεως (πρβλ. ινδ. hargēla), με σχηματισμό κατ' επίδραση της λ. κήλη λόγω της συγγένειας της σημασίας της «εξόγκωμα» με τον πρόλοβο τών πτηνών, και εμφανίζει κατάληξη -ας, που χρησιμοποιείται για τη δήλωση ζώων και πτηνών].
