[Seite 642] zweimal, entstanden aus δFίς, verwandt δύο, identisch das Lateinische bis, welches ebenfalls aus dvis entstanden ist; hier fiel der T-Laut fort, im Griech. δFίς der P-Laut. Sanskrit. dvis »zweimal«, Curtius Grundz. d. Griech. Etymol. 1, 205. Bei Homer findet sich δίς an einer Stelle, Odyss. 9, 491 δὶς τόσσον, »zweimal so weit«, »doppelt so weit«. Vgl. δισθανής. – Folgende, Soph. Ai. 270 u. A. – In der Zusammensetzung, wo es vor Consonanten mit Ausnahme von σ, u. zuweilen vor θ, τ, μ, φ, χ sein ς verliert, = zweimal, zweifach.
