English (LSJ)
ἡ, Ion. κρησέρη, Elean κραἅρα (q. v.), A flour-sieve, bolting-sieve, Hp.Steril.222 (but expld. as a straining-cloth by Erot.), Ar.Ec.991, Gal.Nat.Fac.2.3, Aret.CA1.4, Poll.6.74:—Dim. κρησέρ-ιον, τό, Id.10.114, Zonar. II fine net for fishing, Phot.
Greek Monolingual
Dutch (Woordenboekgrieks.nl)
κρησέρα -ας, ἡ zeef.
Russian (Dvoretsky)
κρησέρα: ἡ сито для просеивания муки Arph.
Frisk Etymological English
Grammatical information: f.
Meaning: fine sieve (Ar. Ek. 991, mediz., Poll.), .
Other forms: Ion. -ρη
Dialectal forms: κραἅρα κόσκινον η ὄρυγμα H. (Aeolic)
Derivatives: Dimin. κρησέριον (Poll.), -ρίτης ἄρτος bread from fine-sieved meal (Diph. 26; Redard Les noms grecs en -της 88f.).
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]
Etymology: The isolated words in -έρα like διφθέρα, ἀσκέρα, χολέρα, κυσέρη point to loanwords. Against derivation from a noun *κρῆσις sieving, to κρίνω with the same ablaut as in Lat. ex-crē-mentum, crē-vi (WP. 2, 584), tells a. o. the lengthened grade, which surprises with a ti-deivation; not better *κρῆσος, cf. Schwyzer 516 f. - The variation prooves a Pre-Greek word.
Frisk Etymology German
κρησέρα: {krēséra}
Forms: ion. -ρη
Meaning: feines Sieb (Ar. Ek. 991, Mediz., Poll.), κραἅρα· κόσκινον ἢ ὄρυγμα H. (elisch).
Derivative: Davon das Demin. κρησέριον (Poll. u. a.), -ρίτης ἄρτος Brot aus feingesiebtem Mehl (Diph. 26; Redard Les noms grecs en -της 88f.).
Etymology : Die vereinzelten Wörter auf -έρα wie διφθέρα, ἀσκέρα, χολέρα, κυσέρη geben keinen sicheren Anhalt für die Beurteilung von κρησέρα. Gegen Ableitung von einem Nomen *κρῆσις das Sieben, zu κρίνω mit demselben Ablaut wie in lat. ex-crē-mentum, crē-vi (WP. 2, 584), spricht u. a. die Dehnstufe, die bei einer ti-Ableitung auffällt; vielleicht ist dafür von *κρῆσος od. dgl. auszugehen, vgl. Schwyzer 516 f.
