Origin: see βαυκός
Etymology: Denomin. to βαύκαλος, known only from EM 192, 20: βαύκαλον μαλακιζόμενον, τρυφερόν, καὶ ὡραϊστόν. This is a derivation from βαυκός; cf. βαυβάω.

Frisk Etymology German

βαυκαλάω: {baukaláō}
Forms: — Daneben βαυκαλίζω ib. (AB, H.).
Grammar: v.
Meaning: einschläfern, einlullen, in den Schlaf wiegen, überhaupt pflegen (Krates Ep., Luk., Aret.)
Derivative: mit βαυκάλησις (Krates Ep., Ruf.) und βαυκάλημα (Sokr. Ep.). Postverbal βαυκάλη Wiege (Sor.).
Etymology: βαυκαλάω und βαυκαλίζω sehen wie Denominativa von βαύκαλος aus, das nur im EM 192, 20 bewahrt ist: βαύκαλον· μαλακιζόμενον, τρυφερόν, καὶ ὡραϊστόν.
