[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Πρόκειται για τη γλώσσα του Ησυχίου (δαύλον
ημίφλεκτον ξύλον). Ο τ. δαύλον εμφανίζεται ως παράλληλος τ. του δαλός < δαFελός (πρβλ. δαίω «ανάβω, πυρπολώ»].
