[ΕΤΥΜΟΛ. Τα ζητήρ (επίθετο του Διός στην Κύπρο), ζήτωρ, ζητρός που απαντούν σε γλώσσες του Ησυχίου προέρχονται πιθ. από θ. ζᾱ, ζη- (πρβλ. δίζημαι «επιζητώ, προσπαθώ, επιδιώκω»). Το ουσ. ζητρός σχηματίζεται περαιτέρω με το επίθ. -τρος (πρβλ. δαι-τρός, ια-τρός)].
