ὀξῠάκανθα: ἡ Mespilus pyracantha, «δένδρον ἐστὶ παραπλήσιον ἀχράδι, μικρότερον δὲ καὶ ἀκανθῶδες ἄγαν· καρπὸν δὲ φέρει μύρτῳ ἐμφερῆ, ἁδρόν, ἐρυθρόν, εὔθρυπτον, ἔνδοθεν πυρῆνα ἔχοντα, ῥῖζαν πολυσχιδῆ καὶ βαθεῖαν».
