Κατ' άλλους, πρέπει να συνδέεται με λ. που δεν έχει διασωθεί στην ελλ. και που θα σήμαινε «φύκι» (πρβλ. λατ. muscus και νέο άνω γερμ. Μiesmuschel «μύδι»), ενώ κατ' άλλη άποψη η λ. συνδέεται με το μύω «κλείνω».
