ὦ δυσπάλαιστον γῆρας, ὡς μισῶ σ' ἔχων, μισῶ δ' ὅσοι χρῄζουσιν ἐκτείνειν βίον, βρωτοῖσι καὶ ποτοῖσι καὶ μαγεύμασι παρεκτρέποντες ὀχετὸν ὥστε μὴ θανεῖν: οὓς χρῆν, ἐπειδὰν μηδὲν ὠφελῶσι γῆν, θανόντας ἔρρειν κἀκποδὼν εἶναι νέοις → Old age, resistless foe, how do I loathe your presence! οἱ, Scythian word, meaning

   A one-eyed, derived by Hdt. 4.27 from ἄριμα = ἕν, σποῦ = ὀφθαλμός; by Eust.ad D.P.31 from ἀρί = ἕν, μασπός = ὀφθαλμός : Ἀ. ἱπποβάμων A.Pr.805.

Greek (Liddell-Scott)

Ἀριμασποί: οἱ, Σκυθικὴ λέξις σημαίνουσα οἱ «μονόφθαλμοι» κατὰ τὸν Ἡρόδ. 4. 27, ὅστις λέγει ὅτι ἄρισμα = ἓν καὶ σποῦ = ὀφθαλμός (ἴδε Rawlinson, 3, σ. 197)· ἐν ᾧ ὁ Εὐστ. εἰς Διον. Π. 31 λέγει ὅτι ἄρι = ἓν καὶ μασπὸς = ὀφθαλμός· ἐν Αἰσχύλ. Πρ. 805 καλοῦνται ἱπποβάμονες.
