Unhappy: ἄθλιος, οἰκτρός, ταλαίπωρος, δυστυχής, δυσδαίμων, ἀτυχής (rare V.), Ar. and V. δύσποτμος, δύσμορος (also Antipho. but rare), τάλας, τλήμων, σχέτλιος, δύστηνος, δείλαιος (rare P.), πανάθλιος. V. δάϊος, μέλεος, δυστάλας, παντάλας, παντλήμων, ἄμοιρος (also Plat. but rare P.), ἄμμορος, ἄνολβος, Ar. κακοδαίμων.
Dejected: P. and V. ἄθυμος (Xen.); see dejected.
Lamentable, distressing: P. and V. βαρύς, λυπηρός, ἀνιαρός, κακός, ἄθλιος, V. δύσφορος (also Xen. but rare P.), δύσοιστος, λυπρός, πολύστονος, πανδάκρυτος. εὐδάκρυτος, πάγκλαυτος, δυσθρήνητος; see also troublesome.
