Etymology: Kretschmer KZ 36, 267f. proposed Doric *ἀν-σχε-δορϜ-ος who resists the lance, originally an epithet; cf. μεν-έγχης, μεν-αίχμης; s. also on ἀλέκτωρ (s. ἀλεκτρυών). Bolling, Lg. 12, 1936,220 posited -δωρϜος. Possible at best.
