Αρχαϊκή λ., η οποία ανάγεται στην ΙΕ ρίζα (s)ke-r- «κόπρος» (πρβλ. λατ. mu-scerda, αρχ. νορβ. skarn, χεττιτ. šakar, šaknaš) και εμφανίζει εναλλαγή r / n στο επίθημα τών τ. της ονομ. σκῶρ και της γεν. σκατός (< σκ-n-τος), αντίστοιχα (πρβλ. ὕδωρ, ὕδατος). Χαρακτηριστικό είναι ότι ο τ. σκῶρ εμφανίζει στην ονομ. και αιτ. μακρό φωνηεντισμό -ωρ- στο επίθημα -γ- αντί της αναμενόμενης συνεσταλμένης βαθμίδας -αρ- (πρβλ. ἧπαρ)].
