Etymology: Substr. word, cf. ἀκακαλίς. Fur. 321 compares κάκτος. There is no reason for oriental origin, as per DELG, except Kramer ZPE 97 (1993) 146, who compares Coptic κακε, κεκε, κεκει dark, the colour of the wood of the acacia; the α- from ἄκανθος (but why?).
