Etymology : Nicht sicher erklärt. Seit Bezzenberger-Fick BB 6, 238. Fick 1, 440 als altererbt mit aind. tāla- m. Weinpalme, lat. tālea Stäbchen, Setzling, alit. talokas erwachsene Tochter, junges Mädchen verbunden. Gegen den Vergleich mit aind. tāla- und lat. tālea Mayrhofer bzw. Ernout-Meillet s.v.; alit. tal-okas weicht jedenfalls in der Vokalquantität ab. Nach Schneider IF 57, 200 und v. Windekens Lex. étym. s.v. (als Alternative) hierher noch toch.
