[Seite 1256] εσσα, εν, so heißt Il. 23, 850 das Eisen, τοξευτῇσι τίθει ἰόεντα σίδηρον, was auf die Farbe bezogen wird, = ἰοειδής, wie Nic. Al. 171 ἰόεντα θάλασσαν sagt, od. "rostig", od. "zu Pfeilen (ἰός) "tauglich" erklärt wird (εἰς ἰοὺς εὐθετοῦντα, εἰς βελῶν ἐργασίαν ἐπιτήδειον), wogegen die Kürze des ι spricht, wenn nicht per synizesin ἰόεντα dreisylbig wird, wie φοινικόεσσα, λωτεῦντα.
