i. e. ἀϝ-ϝερύω, Ep. for ἀν-ϝερύω, = Att. ἀναρρύω: aor. αὐέρῠσα:—

   A draw back or backwards, τὰς [στήλας] οἵ γ' αὐέρυον pulled them backwards, Il.12.261; τόξον αὐερύοντα παρ' ὦμον 8.325: mostly abs., in sacrifice, draw the victim's head back, so as to cut its throat, αὐέρυσαν μὲν πρῶτα καὶ ἔσφαξαν 1.459, cf. Pi.O.13.81, Theoc.25.241, AP6.96 (Eryc.).    II of leeches, suck, Opp.H.2.603.
