Meaning: coire cum femina in σπλεκοῦν (Ar. Lys. 152 Dindorf ex H. et Poll.; codd. πλεκοῦν), διεσπλε-κωμένη (Ar. Pl. 1082), κατασπλεκῶσαι (cod. -άσαι) κατελάσαι H.; σπλέκωμα n. (Sch. Ar. Pl. 1082).
Compounds: Also w. δια-, κατα-.
Derivatives: σπλέκωμα n. (Sch. Ar. Pl. 1082)
Origin: XX [etym. unknown]
Etymology: Expression of the vulgar language, perhaps like σκορακίζω from (ἐ)ς κόρακας through hypostasis from (ἐ)ς πλέκος v. t. arisen (Schwyzer 413). On the original sense of such an expression we have no idea. The well attested πλεκοῦν may have lost its σ-secondarily (cf. Schwyzer 334).
Frisk Etymology German
σπλεκόω: {splekóō}
Grammar: v.
Meaning: coire cum femina in σπλεκοῦν (Ar. Lys. 152 Dindorf ex H. et Poll.; codd. πλεκοῦν), διεσπλεκωμένη (Ar. Pl. 1082), κατασπλεκῶσαι (cod. -άσαι)· κατελάσαι H.; σπλέκωμα n. (Sch. Ar. Pl. 1082).

Etymology: Ausdruck der Vulgär-Sprache, viell. wie σκορακίζω aus (ἐ)ς κόρακας durch Hypostase aus (ἐ)ς πλέκος o. ä. entstanden (Schwyzer 413). Über den eig. Sinn eines solchen Ausdrucks enthält man sich am besten des Urteils. Das gut beglaubigte πλεκοῦν kann sein σ-sekundär verloren haben (vgl. Schwyzer 334).
