Schwyzer 425 w. lit., 310). IE etymologies to be rejected s. W.-Hofmann s.v.; wrong also Carnoy REGr. 69, 286 and Ant. class. 27, 326. Older lit. in Bq. -- So prob. Pre-Greek (Furnée 126). ῥώξ will be a Pre-Greek variant. -- Demiraj, Alb. Etymologien 1997,196 adduces Alb. rrush resin which is identical to Rrush the old name of Ragusa; the word would be a substratum element.
