Carien, habitant de la Carie ; οἱ Κᾶρες, les Cariens.
Étymologie: cf. Καρία.
English (Autenrieth)

Κάρ: ὁ, γεν. έναν Κάρα, Λατ. experimentum facere in corpore vili, σε Ευρ.
Russian (Dvoretsky)
Her.
ᾰ) (pl. Polyb. е.
Middle Liddell
a Carian, Il., etc.; fem. Κάειρα, Il.:—the Carians hired themselves out as mercenaries, and were used to spare the lives of the citizen-soldiers; hence, ἐν τῷ Καρὶ κινδυνεύειν to make the risk, not with one's own person, but with a Carian, Lat. experimentum facere in corpore vili, Eur.
