Etymology: Heubeck, Hermes 91 (1963) recalls κάμμερος ἁχλύς; κέμμερος ἁχλύς, ὀμίχλη H. (proposed to derive from Hitt. kammara-). The word could be a loan from Anatolia. Ivantchik, Les Cimmériens au Proche Orient, Fribourg-Göttingen 1993, 127-154; from *Gimer- or *Gimir-. Perh. an Iranian people, but no etym.
