Geld, pecunia (das Geld als Masse, im Ggstz. zum übrigen Vermögen; dann jede kleinere od. größere Geldmasse, Geldsumme als ein Ganzes, nie = einzelne Geldstücke; daher da, wo von der Größe der Geldsumme die Rede ist [wo wir »wenig, viel, sehr viel G.« sagen], es auch nur mit Adjektt., die eine Masse bezeich nen, wie magna, parva, grandis, permagna, pergrandis, ingens, innumerabilis, verbunden werden darf; dagegen auch una, altera pecunia u. multae pecuniae, wenn von einer und einer zweiten oder von vielen einzelnen Geld summen. Geldposten die Rede ist). – argentum aes (das aus Silber, aus Kupfer geprägte Geld, Silbergeld, Kupfergeld, und da diese bei den Römern die gangbarsten Münzen waren, für Geld übh.). – nummus (das einzelne Geldstück, die Münze). – nummi, Demin. nummuli (mehrere Geldstücke u. zwar nummuli oft verächtl. = elendes, schnödes Geld). – res nummaria (das Geldwesen, das bare Geld im Umlauf, z.B. copia nummariae rei, Überfluß an zirkulierendem, barem Gelde, Ggstz. inopia rei nummariae, eine Geldklemme). – pretium (der Geldpreis, für den man etwas kauft, etwas tut etc.). – illyrisches G., G. von illyrischer Prägung, pecunia Illyriorum signo signata. – schweres G., aes grave. – großes (ganzes) u. kleines G., nummi omnis notae: gutes G., nummi probi (probehaltiges, Ggstz.
