Etymology: The imperative ἔννεπε is identical with Lat. inseque, insece say, recount (with inquam, inquit); -νν- in this form metrical lengthening? (Solmsen Unt. 35, Chantraine Gramm. hom. 1, 100f.); or Aeolic assimilation from -νσ- (e. g. Schulze Q. 128 A. 2, 173, Lejeune Traité de phon. 110; also Schwyzer 300)? The zero grade of (σ)επ- (IE sekʷ̯-) in the aorist ἐνι-σπ-εῖν (ipv. ἔσπετε < *ἔν-σπ-ετε). On the preverb ἐν- Chantraine Rev. de phil. 68, 117, Schwyzer-Debrunner 457. A verbal noun is OIr. insce discourse < IE *en(i)-skʷ̯-iā; further in Celtic, e. g. OWelsh hepp inquit. In Lith.
