ης, dat. βίηφι: force, violence, in the latter sense usually pl., sing. Od. 23.31 ; βίη καὶ κάρτος, Od. 4.415; οὐκ ἲς οὐδὲ βίη, Od. 18.4; ἀρετῇ τε βίῃ τε, Il. 23.578; rarely of the mind, οὐκ ἔστι βίη φρεσί, Il. 3.45; often in periphrases w. gen. of proper name, or w. adj., βίη Ἡρᾶκληείη, Αἰνείᾶο βίη, the might of Heracles, i. e. the mighty Heracles, etc.; βίῃ, by force, in spite of, βίῃ ἀέκοντος, δ , Il. 1.430.
