[Seite 1262] ιδος, auch ιος u. εως, Sp., ἡ (f, nom. pr.), – 1) der Regenbogen, Arist. Meteorl. 3, 2, 4 u. a. Sp.; Il. 11, 27 heißen Drachen ihrer schillernden Farbe wegen ἴρισσιν ἐοικότες. So heißen auch ähnliche farbige Kreise um den Mond u. die Lichtflamme, Arist. meteorol. 3, 4; um die Augen des Pfauenschwanzes, Luc. dom. 11; bes. auch der farbige Kreis im Auge, die Iris, Medic. – 2) die Pflanze Iris, eine Lilienart, Theophr. u. A., die nach Eust. ἰρίς betont werden soll, wie auch Schol. Nic. Al. 406 (ἴριδα) sagt; aus ihr wurde eine Salbe bereitet, s. ἴρινος. – Nach Hesych. auch eine Art Kuchen; u. der Krystall, von seiner Farbenspiegelung.
