Att.; nicht selten findet sich bes. bei Sp. dafür auch αὐτοῦ. Bei Hom. immer getrennt ἕο αὐτοῦ u. s. w. Ueber die Verbindungen ἀφ' ἑαυτοῦ, ἐφ' ἑαυτοῦ, καθ' ἑαυτόν u. ähnliche s. die Präpositionen. Daß im Attischen der gen. ἑαυτοῦ, ἑαυτῶν für das Pronomen possessivum der dritten Person gebraucht wird, wo sich dies auf das Subject des Satzes bezieht, lehrt die Grammatik. Zu bemerken ist 1) daß die Griechen, wenn das subj. scharf bestimmt ist, ἑαυτοῦ auch für die erste u. zweite Person des reflexivi gebrauchen. Dies ist bei Attikern, bes. im plur. nicht eben selten, wobei nach Herm. zu Soph. O. R. 707 u. Ar. Nubb. 1459 gewöhnlich der Gegensatz der Personen mehr hervorgehoben wird; zunächst scheint die kürzere Form für den Plural die Veranlassung zu diesem Gebrauch gewesen, für welchen allein Apollon. de Syntax. III, 2, 3 ihn gelten läßt, ἑαυτοὺς ὑβρίσαμεν, nicht ἑαυτὸν ὕβρισας; vgl. Bernhardy Synt. p. 272, der von Xen u. Isocrat. den Gebrauch im sing. beginnen läßt; δεῖ δέ με καὶ ὑπὲρ Λυκίνου ἀπολογήσασθαι, ἀλλ' οὐχ ὑπὲρ αὑτοῦ μόνον Antipho 5, 60; ἃ τοῖς αὑτοῦ παισὶν ἂν συμβουλεύσειας, τούτοις αὐτὸς ἐμμένειν ἀξί. ου Isocr. 2, 38; παρέλιπον οἰκετῶν εἶναι στάσιν ἔνδον παρ' ἑαυτῷ Men. bei Schol.
